Recently the GoodFellaz were invited to attend the Samsung Galaxy S10 Launch event in NYC, where along with a select crowd of industry tastemakers we were able to check out the new Galaxy phone before it hit stores. With the liquor flowing courtesy of the open bar, along with various entertainment including photobooths and juggling acrobats, the Samsung team spared no expense to showcase their new flagship phone, the highly anticipated Galaxy S10.

Features including an improved Camera, a new power-share feature where you can charge your phone simply by putting it on top of another Galaxy phone, plus impressive ear-buds were some of the highlights of the new S10, and the GoodFellaz were definitely impressed with Samsung’s new product! Indeed, we highly recommend the new Samsung Galaxy S10, for both business and everyday life, it is by far one of the most impressive smart-phones on the market today!

Recently the GoodFellaz were in attendance for the Reda x Baja East x Cadet art exhibit in NYC. Held at the popular Milk Art Gallery in Manhattan, the event was in celebration of the highly anticipated collaboration between the world-renowned Italian fabric mill Reda, and popular U.S. fashion brands Cadet & Baja East.

Held during New York Fashion Week 2016, the event featured free champagne and hors devours, along with a spectacular art exhibit featuring images captured by the acclaimed Magnum photographers. Check out the pics below, courtesy of the good folks at GoodFellaz TV.

Modeling winter-wear for a ‘Winter Coat Trends’ segment on the popular afternoon talk-show, the beautiful Ms. Mekalia wowwed the audience (and Wendy Williams herself) as she strutted down the walkway in a fur-coat and winter-boots.

Recently the GoodFellaz were invited to the Audi “Stray the Course” A3/ Q3 2015 Launch Event in NJ. Held at a secret location in Jersey City, NJ, the event was a celebration for the launch of the new Audi Q3 SUV & Audi A3 Sedan 2015 lines. Featuring sounds from the legendary QuestLove of The Roots, along with the culinary talents of Kevin Pemoulié of ‘Thirty Acres’, everybody who was anybody was there that night!

Not only were the GoodFellaz able to check out the new Audi’s first, but we were even able to take a test-drive in the Q3 SUV; and we must say, we were impressed! Shout-out to The Supper Club Inc for the invite, Check out pics from the event below only on GoodFellaz TV.

Recently the GoodFellaz were invited to the super-exclusive listening session for pop super-star Dev in NYC, where we got a chance to check out tracks from her upcoming EP “Bittersweet July”. The new project, which is set to be released September 23rd on Universal Republic Records, features the current hit single “Kids”, which is actually free with the pre-sale purchase of “Bittersweet July”.

The listening event, which was held at a top secret location in New York City, also featured  free manicures for the ladies as well as give-away’s courtesy of Calvin Klein. “Bittersweet July” is the follow-up project from Dev, whose last album “The Night the Sun Came Up” was released in 2010 and featured the smash singles “Bass Down Low”, “In The Dark” and “My Trunk”.

An Ecclectic Perspective on: Robocop (Reboot)

So, this past Thursday I was able to check out an advance screening of the new Robocop flick dropping today in theaters. Shout out to Tommy Gunz and GoodFellaz TV for the hookup, we definitely had fun in NY with this one.

This particular reboot was directed by Jorge Padilla and stars relatively unknown; actor Joel Kinnamen as the iconic Alex Murphy in particular. To be honest I wasn’t familiar with either the actor nor the director heading into this one, so my expectations were really low lol. So, jumping right into it, Robocop is a fairly decent reboot. It’s not a great movie, but it’s not a stinker either. It shares some similarities with the original that I liked, but it was the differences that ultimately turned me off.

Both movies deal with corporate greed and the use of the almighty dollar in attempts to control people. In the original Robocop, Detroit goes bankrupt (big surprise!) and the Mayor gives control of the city to OCP (Omni-Consumer Products). In exchange OCP was supposed to renovate Detroit into some utopian city run by OCP. The local police strike because they don’t want to be run by a corporation, who then tries to replace them with robots. In the original Alex Murphy is killed (I mean dude got the biz!) because OCP needed a body for their Robocop program, so they send all these cops to high crime areas hoping someone dies. That’s deep right?

In the reboot, OmniCorp is basically a leader in robot-tech and overseas drones. They want to use those drones and robots to police the United States, but there’s laws stopping them from doing it. OmniCorp then basically has the idea of putting a human into a robot in order to make the idea of robots and drones more appealing to Americans. In this version Alex Murphy is injured in a car bomb as kickback for his dealings with a local drug dealer. Did I mention he doesn’t die? I mean, you can see right there how the original story just reads better and seems to be better written.

It’s liberties like this that made the movie less enjoyable when comparing it to the original. They tried to go the social commentary route in this one and wound up taking the heart out of it. You cared about Murphy in the original, you felt bad when he was killed, felt for him when the memories of his family started coming back, considering the fact that his family left, thinking he was dead and moved on with their lives. In this version Murphy’s wife is BEYOND patient and understanding of what is going on with her husband and even signed off on the papers to make it happen. So, right there, another story change that cheapens the emotion of the plot for me.

The action sequences and special effects are obviously going to be better in a 2014 movie than a 1987 one. That’s what this movie has going for it. The redesign of the Robocop suit, his abilities, the fight scenes between him and drones, all things that stood out in this version to me. Granted the PG rating versus the R rating of the original toned down some of the visuals that the original had, but Robocop 2014 still pulled off some entertaining sequences.

All in all, a decent, although unnecessary reboot in my eyes. I think if you were going to try to improve on a classic original you needed to bring something better to the table, and while they improved on some things, overall I think the reboot fell a little flat to me. The heart and punch of the original just wasn’t there for me. Samuel Jackson in a ‘lace-front’ wig shouting his normal expletives couldn’t even save it lol..

MOVIE SCORE: 3.5 out of 5

Decent Action & Special Effects, Story and Plot were lacking heart.

Super Bowl week in NYC can be best described in one word: INSANITY! New York (and New Jersey, where the Super Bowl is actually being played…lol) was definitely buzzin’ for Super Bowl week, and of course the GoodFellaz were everywhere that mattered.

One of our favorite events during Super Bowl week was the Nike ‘Hall of Innovation’ party, which was held Monday January 27th at Skyline at Moynihan Station in Manhattan. The Super Bowl celebration also showcased Nike’s new ‘NFL Silver Speed Collection’ of athletic  and casual gear. Complimented with an all-night ‘open bar’ and sounds by the legendary Q-Tip on the turn-tables, the lucky attendees got to check out the hottest new Nike sneakers and gear, and were even able to participate in 40-yard dash’s on the giant indoor turf field as well! Good times
