Every summer New York City has a ton of FREE music events going on throughout the city. So for everybody who doesn’t know, the good folks at GoodFellaz TV are happy to keep you updated on the most poppin’ FREE concerts of the summertime. Check out some of the hottest events going on in NYC below.

Mya

WHEN: Tuesday June 21 at 6 PM
WHERE: Best Buys at Union Square, NYC (1 Union Square E, btw 14th Street & 4th Ave.)

The always super-sexy Mya will be performing for FREE at the Best Buy in Union Square NYC on Tuesday June 21st to celebrate the release of her album “K.I.S.S.”. Fans who purchase a copy of her new album at the Union Square Best Buy will receive a wristband granting them early admittance for this event.


Talib Kweli

WHEN: Tuesday June 21 at 7 PM
WHERE: Red Hook Park, Brooklyn, NY (Hicks & Lorraine Streets)

Hip Hop superstar Talib Kweli will be performing at this FREE event sponsored by The City Parks Foundation. Talib Kweli, who is originally from Brooklyn, is sure to put on a classic show, so make sure YOU are there.


Olivia & Rudy Currence

WHEN: Wednesday June 22 at 7:30 PM
WHERE: Apple Store in SoHo, NYC (103 Prince Street)

Part of the Apple Store concert-series, R&B vixen Olivia will be performing for FREE, as well as Def Jam/DTP’s newest sensation Rudy Currence. A must attend event for any R&B fan.


Beyonce

WHEN: Friday July 1 at
WHERE: Rumsey Playfield, Central Park (72nd Street)

The “Good Morning America’ concert series present the one-and-only Beyonce LIVE in Central Park for FREE. This is an EARLY event, And it is Beyonce, so GoodFellaz TV recommends that you get there for the best view around 5 to 6 am. You do not need tickets to see the show. The show starts 7am sharp, and will be seen on TV. It’s first come, first serve until capacity is reached. This is one events you do NOT want to miss.


Raekwon, Smif-n-Wessun & Joel Ortiz

WHEN: Saturday July 9 at 7:30 PM
WHERE: Prospect Park Bandshell , Brooklyn, NY (9th Street & Prospect Park West)

Raekwon the Chef alongside fellow hip-hop heavyweights Smif-n-Wessun & Joel Ortiz will be performing at the “Celebrate Brooklyn!” FREE music series on Saturday July. This event will also feature appearances from & Large Professor & Skyzoo, among others. Any real hip-hop fan needs to be at this event!


Slick Rick

WHEN: Tuesday July 12 at 7 PM
WHERE: Crotona Park, Bronx, NY (1682 Boston Road, Bronx)

The Ruler Slick Rick shows love to the birthplace of hip-hop, the Bronx, for a FREE concert. Since dropping his classic debut album “The Adventures of Slick Rick”, Slick Rick has established himself as a hip-hop legend. This is one event you can’t miss.


Ryan Leslie

WHEN: Thursday August 11 at 7 PM
WHERE: Marcus Garvey Park, Harlem, NY (120th to 124th Streets)

R&B singer Ryan Leslie will be performing in Harlem in August 11th . The Grammy-nominated artist will be doing all his hits at this FREE event, so fellaz make sure you bring your special lady with you; after watching Ryan Lesli perform, you might just get lucky that night! Lol

 

Rakim & EPMD

WHEN: Sunday August 21at 3 PM
WHERE: Central Park Summer-Stage NYC (69th Street & 5th Ave)

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the legendary Eric B & Rakim “Paid in Full” album, Rakim will be performing for FREE during the “Summer-Stage” series that’s held in Central Park, NYC. Also performing will be the legendary group EPMD, & hosted by Funkmaster Flex. This is one event that any true hip-hop fan will not want to miss.

 

Cee-Lo Green, Jay Electronica & Janelle Monae

WHEN: Sat-Sun August 27 & 28
WHERE: Commodore Barry Park in Brooklyn, NY (266 Nassau Street)

The 7th annual “Afro-punk Festival” in Brooklyn, NY will feature performances from Janelle Monae, Cee-Lo Green, Santigold, Jay Electronica, and more during the course of the weekend. The FREE festival will also feature the largest skate & BMX-bike competition in NYC, as well as a custom bike show. If you are a music lover or skate/bike aficionado, this is one event you must be in attendance for.
