Congratulations to Rick Ross & Maybach Music Group, who took the Billboard #1 spot for Hip Hop albums this week, selling 53,133 copies of their debut album “Maybach Music Group Presents: Self Made Volume 1” in its first week.
In the current music-buying climate where even hip hop legends like Snoop Dogg only sell around 50,000 copies in the first week, these are respectable numbers for the Boss Rick Ross & MMG. However in an even more disturbing trend for hip hop, Lady Gaga, who had the # 1 overall album in the country with “Born This Way” sold around 1.1 million copies of her new album in the same week.
“Self Made” was the first release on Rick Ross newly-signed Maybach Music Group imprint on Warner Music Group. Maybach Music Group, which consists of members Rick Ross, Wale, Meek Mill & Pill, came in at # 5 overall on the charts, according to Soundscan.
Rick Ross, who is still signed to Def Jam Records as a solo artist, is said to be putting the finishing touches on his new album “God Forgives, I Don’t”, which is rumored to be dropping later this year.
