What a sad way to kick-off  “Black History Month”. Don Cornelius, the legenday host and creator of the iconic “Soul Train’, was reportedly found dead Wednesday morning at his home in Los Angeles, California.  According to sources involved with the police investigation, his death appears to have been a suicide; allegedly from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Don Cornelius, who was 75 years old at the time of his passing, created the visionary “Soul Train” brand and was the host of the nationally syndicated show from 1971 to 1993.  It was the first legitamate venue on American Television for African-American music, and he was instrumental in all aspects of it: from the writing & production, to showcasing emerging stars including James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson and many more to a wider audience across the country. He was also famous for closing out each show with his well-known catchphrase: “I’m Don Cornelius, and as always in parting, we wish you love, peace and soul!”

R.I.P. to a true pioneer of urban music, Don Cornelius. GoodFellaz TV will continue to update this story as details emerge. Check out the reaction on Twitter from numerous celebrities as they share their thought on the tragedy, and check out some classic “Soul Train” footage below.
