Legendary Singer Whitney Houston Found Dead At Age 48

In tragic news, R&B legend Whitney Houston passes away Saturday Feb. 11th at age 48. Houston, who once ruled the airwaves and the charts with her amazing voice throughout the 80′s & 90′s, had unfortunately been on a downward spiral both physically and emotionally, after a series of missteps, including her rampant drug-use and her chaotic marriage to singer Bobby Brown, among other things. At this time, the cause and the location of her death are unknown.
The multi-platinum singer was once on top of the world. She was one of the top-selling artists in music history, having sold more than 55 Million records in the U.S. alone. She won several Grammy-Awards, and also had a successful acting career, where she starred in several hit movies including “The Bodyguard”, “The Preacher’s Wife” and “Waiting to Exhale”.
However towards the end of her career, a darker-side of Whitney Houston began to emerge. The singer who once had a pristine, church-raised image, began to show signs of questionable behavior. Her marriage to then-R&B ‘badboy’ Bobby Brown raised more than a few eyebrows. Afterwards rumors of drug-use began to circulate.
She eventually confessed to abusing cocaine, marijuana and pills. In 2010, during her infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey, she admitted that:
“(Doing drugs) was an everyday thing. I would do my work, but after I did my work, for a whole year or two, it was every day. I wasn’t happy by that point in time. I was losing myself.”
Whitney Houston was admitted into drug-rehab centers twice. She often blamed her troubles on her tumultuous marriage to Bobby Brown, whom she eventually divorced in 2007.
However, despite the success of her recent 2009 come-back album “I Look To You.”, which went platinum, things continued to deteriorate. Her recent overseas world-tour was a disaster, as it became apparent the Whitney Houston had lost her once awe-inspiring voice. Numerous canceled concert dates and her continued erratic behavior once again raised speculation that she was abusing drugs again.
Suge Knight Arrested For Weed Possession In Las Vegas
It seems like Suge Knight just can’t stay out of trouble. According to authorities, the infamous former-Rap Mogul is facing an upcoming court date this March in Las Vegas, following reports of a recent arrest and a misdemeanor drug charge.
Knight, the 46 year-old former CEO of the legendary Death Row Records, was stopped while driving a black Bentley just off the Las Vegas Strip, where he was issued a ticket for an unsafe lane change. Supposedly he also was charged with possession of less than one ounce of a marijuana in the car as well; he was soon after released from lock-up without bail.
Suge Knight, who along with fellow legends Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg & 2pac, helped Deathrow become one of the most successful (and feared) Record Labels of the 9o’s. He was at the wheel of a car when ‘Pac was shot and killed in 1996 in Las Vegas. Since then however, the former-mogul’s hip-hop empire fell on hard time; the debt-ridden label eventually went bankrupt and was later sold in an auction.

It’s Official: 2 Chainz Signs With Def Jam Records

Well it’s official, ATL rapper 2 Chainz is officially signed to Def Jam Records. You know the good folks at GoodFellaz TV always got the inside scoop, and we were the FIRST website to break this rumor. Well our “Word-on-the-Street” was correct; 2 Chainz appeared on MTV’s “RapFix Live” on Wednesday February 1st, where he finally spoke publicly about his ‘new’ label situation with “RFL” host Sway, stating,
“At the end of the day, my new home and where I’ve been comfortable with for a minute, is Def Jam,”
The former DTP-affiliate & one-half of the rap group Playaz Circle, also previouslysigned to Def Jam, has had one of the craziest ‘buzzes’ in the game of late, all as a result of his independent grind. And the big-dogs at Hip-Hop #1 Record Label Island Def Jam Records were definitely paying close attention, making sure that 2 Chainz stayed-put under their umbrella.

Ne-Yo Makes The Move To Motown Records, Named SVP Of A&R

It looks like Ne-Yo is making the transition from artist to executive. The ‘Grammy Award’-winning singer has been named the Senior Vice President of A&R for the legendary Motown Records imprint, making the move from his long-time home Island Def Jam Records.
According to a statement release on January 25th, Ne-Yo’s new home will be the iconic brand first created by Berry Gordy in 1959, both as an artist, and now as an executive. In his statement Ne-Yo had this to say,
“I’m honored that I¹ve been given such a prestigious title and trusted with such responsibility; terrified because I know that playing this role in the fashion of one of my career role models, Mr. Smokey Robinson — these are big shoes to fill. But trust, I can handle it,”
The singer/songwriter, who’s debut album “In My Own Words” dropped in 2006 on Def Jam, will now be releasing his fifth as-yet-untitled album through Motown, which, along with Def Jam, is also a part of the Universal Music Group umbrella. Ne-Yo will also be bringing his Compound Entertainment imprint over to Motown as well.
