Jay-Z and Kanye West’s highly anticipated “Watch the Throne” album debuted as the #1 album in country, selling over 436,000 copies in its 1st week sales and making iTunes history along the way. “Watch the Throne”, which was released first exclusively to iTunes a week before it hit physical stores, broke the record for 1st week digital album sales, selling over 290,000 copies. The previous record was held by Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida”, which moved 155,000 copies back in 2008.
Hov & Yeezy’s ” Watch the Throne” album dominated globally as well, debuting at #1 in 23 countries worldwide. The album also scored the second-largest sales week of the year, only trailing Lady Gaga’s 1.1 million 1st week debut for her latest album “Born This Way.”
Even more surprising is the fact that Hov & ‘Ye’s new album DIDN’T get leaked to the public early. Usually an album of this magnitude is usually “mysteriously” gets leaked several weeks prior to its release, to the delight of Internet Dudes & Bootleggers across the globe. Rumor has it the Jay-Z & Kanye hit their studio-engineer with an iced-out Rolex to insure none of their music leaked. Smart move!
