The new surprise project, her sophomore solo release, sports 22 new tracks and dropped September 22nd on Def Jam Records. The new LP features the lead single “When We Love”, with guest appearances by Brandy, John Mayer, Kurupt, Swae Lee (from the group Rae Sremmurd), and of course her beau Big Sean, among others.
Along with the release of her new album, Jhene Aiko also dropped a short-film for “Trip”, along with a book of poetry entitled “2Fish”. According to the super-sexy Ms. Aiko, the death of her brother Miyagi in 2012, as well as her experimentation with psychedelic drugs, helped fuel the creation of her new project; her first solo project since 2014’s “Souled Out”.
During a recent interview on Power 105’s “The Breakfast Club” radio show, Jhene had this to say regarding the new album:
This year, I just really want to show every side of me, really dive into who I am […] I’m getting older and I feel like I’m more in tune with who I am and less afraid to express every side of myself. [The album is] inspired by every type of trip you could imagine: mental, physical, even psychedelic. I’m at a point where I put it all in the music. It’s a puzzle I want people to put together.”
