It was reported over a year ago that D’Angelo was back in the studio working on a new project with even the likes of ?uestlove, but now it seems more fact than rumor. D’Angelo is to make his first US performance at the upcoming 2012 Essence Music Festival which will run from July 6 to July 8 in New Orleans. It’s been over a decade since D’Angelo did a stage performance in the US and the anticipation is very high, and is to take the same stage with other performers such as  Trey Songz, Aretha Franklin, Mary J. Blige and many others.

For those in need of a refresher: D’Angelo’s last effort was 2000’s Voodoo, which went multiplatinum and earned the singer two Grammy Awards, including best R&B album. He became quite notorious for the music video for “Untitled (How Does It Feel),” which featured the singer serenading the camera for four minutes straight against a black backdrop while completely nude. Recently in March 2010 arrest for allegedly soliciting a prostitute where he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and appears ready to move on from the incident.  D’Angelo’s return to the stage started earlier this year in Sweden and it seems he hasn’t lost a step. Below are some current videos of his performenaces of two of his new tracks, one titled ” The Charade “ and the other “Sugar Daddy “
